Welcome to the online home of chess at Wakefield High School.

We are a group of students and teachers who play chess in the library.

We now have over two hundred active chess players each week.  We play before school, during lunches and after school each day.  Because chess is free play in the library, we do not keep a roster of participants.  There is no formal registration, tryouts or cuts.  We welcome you to come play when you are able.  We welcome all levels of play - newcomers as well as tournament players.  We offer beginner instruction and support in our informal learning/play environment.
If you haven't joined us, stop by to check us out!   (Get it? "check" us out. That's a chess joke!)
Below is a slide show of our program.  When we provide students with an opportunity for success, they will seize it with gusto.  We began the program in  September, 2017.   The students of Wakefield created this community of players (and all of these images)  in a few short months.  This website documents their progress.
